Common questions

Is it safe to edit PDFs online?

Browser-based tools can reduce exposure when they process files locally. Lyonite’s file workflows run in your browser rather than sending the file to Lyonite for processing. You should still review the output before sharing sensitive documents.

How do I compress a PDF without losing quality?

Use a compression mode that matches the document. Lyonite offers image-based compression for scans, which shrinks the most, and a text-preserving rewrite for documents that need selectable text. If a mode would make the file larger, Lyonite keeps the original instead.

Can I merge PDFs for free without signing up?

Yes. Merging is free with no account, no email and no watermark. Choose your files, drag them into the order you want, and download the combined PDF. Nothing is uploaded at any point.

How do I remove metadata from a PDF?

PDF metadata can include author, creator, producer, dates, document identifiers, XMP and custom properties. Select the PDF in Lyonite’s metadata cleaner and download the rewritten copy. Review the result before sharing sensitive documents, because visible page content and some embedded objects are separate from document metadata.

What's the difference between splitting and extracting PDF pages?

Splitting divides a PDF into several separate files. Extracting creates one new PDF containing only the pages you picked. Use splitting when you need individual documents, extraction when you need a shorter version of one.

Are browser-based PDF tools as good as desktop software?

For everyday tasks — merging, splitting, rotating, compressing, editing metadata — a browser handles it without installing anything. Desktop software is still better for advanced editing, very large files, or specialised PDF features.
