Terms of Service

The Deal

We built Lyonite to make working with PDFs painless. You need PDF tools, we built them. Here’s the agreement:

  • You: Use our PDF tools responsibly and legally. Don’t process content you don’t have rights to.
  • Us: Keep the tools running, fix bugs, don’t sell your data.
  • Reality check: Software has bugs. Servers go down. We try hard, but we’re human.
  • If things go wrong: You paid us nothing, so our liability is limited accordingly. See section 9.
  • Price: Free. There is nothing to buy, and therefore nothing to refund.

1. Accepting These Terms

By using Lyonite (the website, PDF tools, or any of our services), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don’t agree, don’t use our stuff.

“You” means you, the person using our tools. “We,” “us,” “our” means Lyonite, operated by 102040291 Saskatchewan Ltd.

Updates to these terms:

  • Notice on the website
  • Updated “Last modified” date

2. Who Can Use Lyonite

You can use our PDF tools if:

  • You’re at least 13 years old
  • You can legally enter into a contract
  • You’re not banned from using our services
  • You’re not prohibited by law from accessing our site

3. What You Can and Can't Do

You CAN:

  • • Use our PDF tools for personal projects or work
  • • Process PDFs you created or have rights to
  • • Compress, merge, split, rotate, and convert your own PDFs
  • • Edit and remove metadata from your own documents
  • • Create backups of your own files
  • • Share links to Lyonite
  • • Give us feedback or report bugs

You CAN’T:

  • • Process copyrighted PDFs without permission
  • • Abuse or overload our servers
  • • Try to hack or exploit vulnerabilities
  • • Resell access to our tools
  • • Scrape our site to build a competitor
  • • Upload malware or malicious code

Consequences of violations:

If you break these rules we can block your access to the site. For serious violations (hacking attempts, illegal content), we may report you to authorities.

4. Copyright and Content Responsibility

YOU are responsible for ensuring you have the legal right to process any PDF you use with our tools.

You’re responsible for:

  • Having rights to any PDF you process, compress, merge, split, or convert
  • Complying with copyright laws in your country
  • Using processed documents legally
  • Not violating third-party rights or terms of service

Prohibited content:

You may NOT use our PDF tools to process:

  • Copyrighted PDFs you don’t have rights to
  • Documents that circumvent DRM or copy protection
  • Content that violates someone else’s intellectual property
  • Illegal content
  • Malware or malicious code embedded in PDFs

5. Our PDF Tools & Services

Available PDF Tools:

Lyonite currently offers the following browser-based PDF tools:

  • Compress PDF — Reduce file size while preserving quality
  • Merge PDFs — Combine multiple PDF files into one document
  • PDF to Word — Convert PDFs to editable Word documents
  • Split PDF — Separate a PDF into multiple files
  • Delete PDF Pages — Remove unwanted pages from a PDF
  • Rotate PDF — Fix page orientation
  • View PDF Metadata — Inspect document properties and hidden data
  • Edit PDF Metadata — Change title, author, subject, keywords, and dates
  • Clean PDF Metadata — Strip hidden data for privacy

All tools process PDFs entirely in your browser. We may add, modify, or retire tools at any time.

6. Accounts

Lyonite has no accounts. There is no sign-up, no login, and no profile to manage. Every tool works immediately when you open its page.

Because there is no account, there is nothing for us to suspend or delete, and nothing for you to recover. The only information we hold is what you send us directly through the contact or waitlist form, as described in our Privacy Policy.

7. Price

Every tool on Lyonite is free. There is no daily limit, no usage counter, no subscription, and nothing to purchase. We do not process payments and have no payment provider.

If that ever changes, the terms will be updated before anything is charged, and nothing that works for free today will be moved behind a payment.

8. Service Availability and Uptime

What We Promise:

  • Target uptime: 99%+
  • Response to outages: Within 1 hour during business hours
  • Bug fixes: Critical bugs within 24 hours

What We Don’t Promise:

  • 100% uptime (impossible)
  • Error-free operation (bugs exist)
  • Compatibility with every browser/device
  • That every PDF file will process perfectly (some PDFs have non-standard formatting)

9. Limitation of Liability

We’re Not Liable For:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities
  • Damages from using or being unable to use our PDF tools
  • Third-party actions
  • Any damages over the amount you paid us in the past 12 months

Translation: If something goes wrong, the most we’ll owe you is what you paid us (if anything). We’re not responsible if you get in legal trouble for processing copyrighted documents.

10. Termination

We Can Terminate Your Access If:

  • You violate these terms
  • You attempt to hack or exploit our systems
  • Your actions harm other users or our service
  • We’re legally required to
  • You conduct fraudulent activity

You Can Leave Anytime:

Just stop using the site. There is no account to close, no subscription to cancel and no data of yours sitting on our servers to delete.

Our Approach to Legal Stuff

Most Terms of Service are written by lawyers for lawyers. They’re intentionally vague and one-sided. We tried to make ours clear and fair.

The core principle: Use our PDF tools responsibly. Don’t process documents you don’t have rights to. We’ll keep the tools running and not sell your data.

Last thing: By using Lyonite, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use our tools.
