Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Lyonite’s PDF tools

General

How do your PDF tools work without uploading files?
Our tools use WebAssembly to process PDFs entirely in your browser. When you select a file, it's loaded into your browser's memory, processed locally, and the result is generated — all without ever leaving your device. We physically cannot see your documents because they never touch our servers.
What PDF tools are available right now?
We have Compress PDF, Merge PDFs, Split PDF, Delete Pages, Rotate PDF, PDF to Word, and three metadata tools: Edit PDF Properties, View PDF Info, and Remove PDF Metadata. More tools are always in development.
Can I use this on my phone?
Absolutely. All our tools are fully responsive and work on phones, tablets, and desktops. No app download required — just visit the site and use the tools directly in your mobile browser.
Do I need to create an account?
Nope. Our tools work instantly without any signup. We only ask for an account if you want to purchase tokens for additional usage beyond the free daily limit.
What makes you different from ILovePDF or SmallPDF?
Those services upload your files to their servers for processing. We don't. Your PDFs are processed entirely in your browser using WebAssembly — they never leave your device. Plus, we have no ads, no aggressive upselling, and a clean interface that respects your time.

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe?
Your files never leave your browser. We use client-side processing, which means there's nothing to hack on our end because we never receive your documents. Check our Privacy Policy for the full technical details.
Why would I need to edit or remove PDF metadata?
PDF files contain hidden information like author names, creation dates, software used, and sometimes location data. Before sharing documents professionally or publicly, removing this metadata protects your privacy. Editing metadata lets you properly attribute documents or update outdated information.
What metadata is typically in a PDF?
Common PDF metadata includes: Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creation Date, Modification Date, Creator (software used), Producer, and custom properties. Some PDFs also contain XMP metadata with even more detailed information.
Can you see the PDFs I process?
No. We physically cannot access your files. All processing happens in your browser's local memory. Our servers never receive, store, or have any access to your documents. This is a fundamental architectural decision, not just a policy.

Technical

What browsers are supported?
Any modern browser that supports WebAssembly: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge (Chromium-based). We recommend keeping your browser updated for the best experience. Internet Explorer is not supported.
Is there a file size limit?
Since processing happens in your browser, the limit depends on your device's available memory. Most devices can handle files up to 100MB without issues. Very large files (500MB+) may be slow on older devices.
Why is processing so fast?
Traditional PDF tools upload your file to a server, process it, and send it back. That's slow. We use WebAssembly to run processing code directly in your browser at near-native speed. No upload, no download, no waiting.
What happens if I lose internet connection mid-process?
Since everything runs locally in your browser, you can even process files offline after the initial page load. Losing connection won't affect processing — only downloading the result if you navigate away.

Pricing & Tokens

Is it really free?
Yes. Our PDF tools have a generous free tier (10 processes per day) that covers typical personal use. If you need more than the daily free limit, we offer simple token packs starting at $5. No subscriptions, no recurring charges — buy once, use forever.
What counts as one process/token?
Each action on a PDF uses one token: editing metadata, viewing properties, removing metadata, compressing, merging, splitting, etc. Simply uploading a file doesn't count — only processing it does.
Do purchased tokens expire?
Never. Tokens you purchase are yours forever. Use them this week or next year. We don't believe in expiring credits.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, within 14 days of purchase. No questions asked. See our refund policy for complete details.
Why tokens instead of a subscription?
Subscriptions charge you monthly whether you use the service or not. We think that's unfair. With tokens, you pay for what you use, when you use it. Simple and honest.
