How to rotate PDF pages

1

Choose your PDF

Drag and drop or browse. Nothing is uploaded — the file is read in the page. Every page renders as a thumbnail so you can see what needs fixing.

2

Rotate as needed

Turn individual pages, or apply 90°, 180°, or 270° to all pages, odd pages, even pages, or a page range.

3

Save your file

Download a new PDF with the corrected page rotation stored in the file.

Why do pages end up sideways?

It happens more often than you'd think. Here are the usual culprits:

Scanned documents

Flatbed scanners often flip pages. If the original was placed upside-down or at an angle, the PDF inherits that orientation.

Mobile scanning apps

Phone cameras are great for quick scans, but they don't always detect the correct orientation — especially for landscape documents.

Photos converted to PDF

EXIF rotation data doesn't always transfer when images become PDFs. What looked right as a photo displays sideways as a PDF.

Mixed-orientation documents

Some PDFs combine portrait and landscape pages. Slide decks embedded in reports are a common example.

Rotation options

Rotate clockwise (90°)

Most common fix

Turns the page 90° to the right. Click once for a quarter turn, twice for 180° (upside-down fix), three times for 270°.

Rotate counter-clockwise

Same result, opposite direction

Turns the page 90° to the left. Some people find this more intuitive depending on which way the page is tilted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I rotate just some pages?

Yes. Each page thumbnail has its own rotate buttons. Fix only the pages that need it — the rest stay as they are.

Does rotation affect quality?

Lyonite does not rasterize or copy pages into a new document when rotating. It changes each selected page's rotation value in the existing document tree, preserving document metadata, forms, links, bookmarks, annotations, and named destinations. A signed file must still be re-saved, so its existing digital signature will no longer validate.

Is the rotation permanent?

Yes. The downloaded file stores the new page rotation in the PDF page structure. Standards-compliant PDF viewers should reopen it with the corrected orientation.

What if I need to do more than rotate?

If you also need to delete pages, add blank pages, or reorder your document, use our Organize Pages tool. It includes rotation plus full page management.
